ScitoVation works with industry associations to help member companies close evidence gaps and respond to regulator and stakeholder questions. We serve as a scientific partner in developing and implementing research agendas that address the needs of the full membership.
Problems We've Solved for Association Clients
- Understanding the mode of action of a compound. For the American Beverage Association (ABA), concern arose that a compound widely used across the industry could cause cancer. We showed that the compound's mode of action was mediated by PPAR-alpha activation, a mechanism with well-documented species differences that make it a poor predictor of human cancer risk, despite driving tumors in rodents.
- Ranking chemicals for member companies. For Cosmetics Europe, we developed physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) models that rank chemicals by estimated internal human exposure, helping member companies assess the relative risk of new compounds against those already on the market.
- Extrapolating animal and in vitro data to humans. For CAPHRA (Council for the Advancement of Pyrethroid Risk Assessment), representing crop-life companies that manufacture pyrethroid compounds, we showed that children were not more susceptible to these compounds than adults.
Beyond the Research
We also support our association clients through webinars and outreach that help member companies put study findings into practice. Associations value the added regulatory credibility our results carry, reflected in outcomes such as the ABA and CAPHRA findings above. Our relationships across industry, academia, regulators, and non-government organizations position ScitoVation as a bridge between these groups.
