Andy Nong Joins ScitoVation as Director of Computational Toxicology

July 11, 2022

ScitoVation announced today the new Director of Computational Toxicology, Andy Nong PhD, formerly Health Canada’s Acting Manager of the Exposure and Biomonitoring Division and Principal Research Scientist for the Computational Toxicology Laboratory of the Environmental Health Sciences and Research Bureau.

Dr Nong has been developing toxicokinetic and biological modeling research to advance alternative risk assessment approaches. He has also helped developed Biomonitoring Equivalents to interpret biomonitoring data with the Canadian Health Measures Survey and more recently is working at evaluating computer tools for the in vitro to in vivo extrapolation of high throughput screening content for Health Canada Chemical Management Plan. He also managed a division of laboratories that research health concerns to Canadians from daily exposure to chemicals in homes and environment, including biomonitoring, drinking water, house dusts, indoor air, and household products.

Dr Nong is excited to join ScitoVation and lead its excellent computational experts. He explained, “I am thrilled to become part of the talented Scitovation team and provide guidance on computational research for New Approach Methods (NAM). ScitoVation has a strong established group of experts in computational modeling and dosimetry prediction for chemicals and biologics, and I look forward to supporting them for future assessments using advanced computing tools and NAMs.”

Dr. Jean Orelien, CEO at ScitoVation, is pleased that Nong joined the team. He explained, “In addition to Andy’s technical expertise in computing, I appreciate his experience with a regulatory agency. This is helpful to enhance our effectiveness in a key role we play in our ecosystem, that is to serve as a bridge between industry and regulators.”

Dr Nong’s official start date is July 11th.

Additional Information about Dr. Nong:
Dr Nong received his PhD in Public Health from University of Montreal. He also was a Postdoctoral Fellow and Research Investigator at the Chemical Industry Institute of Toxicology/The Hamner Institutes for Health Sciences. He has author/co-author of over 50 publications including peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, and once served on the Board of Editors of the Journal of Applied Toxicology. In addition to his research activities, Dr Nong is the former past president for the Society of Toxicology Biological Modeling Speciality Section. He also has been involved in many expert committees such as the National Academies of Sciences (NAS), World Health Organisation International Programme on Chemical Safety (WHO/IPCS), Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and European Union Reference Laboratory for alternatives to animal testing (EURL-ECVAM).
